Are you curious about outdoor swimming but unsure where to start? Our Introduction to Outdoor Swimming & Safety Workshop is designed to give you the knowledge and confidence to enjoy swimming in open water safely. This workshop is perfect for beginners or anyone looking to improve their knowledge in a supportive and friendly environment!

The Theory Session

✔️ The pros & cons of outdoor swimming – Discover the benefits and challenges of swimming in nature.
✔️ Cold water immersion – Learn how your body responds to cold water, including cold water shock and afterdrop, and how to warm up safely.
✔️ Weather & environmental factors – Understand how wind, temperature, and tides affect your swim.
✔️ Water safety & risk assessment – Learn how to assess different water bodies and identify potential hazards.
✔️ Kit & equipment – Explore options for staying safe and comfortable in open water.

 

The Practical Session

After our discussion, we’ll change into swim gear and enjoy a short dip or swim, depending on group ability and weather conditions. Safety is our priority, and all swims are optional—you can take things at your own pace.

 

Post-Swim Warm-Up

We’ll finish with warm drinks and snacks, ensuring everyone is comfortable and warm before heading home.

 HIGHLAND ESCAPE LONG WEEKEND BREAK

WHEN: 2pm Friday May 30th – 1pm Monday 2nd June

WHERE: Kingussie

WHAT: This is a fabulous long weekend exploring exciting rivers, beautiful waterfalls, and stunning lochs, all in the striking scenery of Badenoch and Strathspey. 

We will aim to swim at least once on Friday and Monday, twice on Saturday and Sunday but if the weather allows, we may be able to add a few more. We’ll swim in all weathers, so long as the conditions are safe. No swims are compulsory! You are free to miss out swims if you’d prefer to rest, paint, bird watch, forage etc.

You will also have the opportunity to find an abandoned village, circumnavigate a loch, meander on a gorgeous forest track to an emerald lochan, explore the unique, outdoor Highland Folk Museum, and ,of course, there will be a castle!

WHO: If you love swimming outdoors and are keen to discover new and exciting swim spots, this is for you. 

We are happy to take swimmers of all abilities but you should be comfortable being out of your depth. We want to ensure you enjoy all of the swims. For those who prefer to swim a bit further, there will also be opportunities to enjoy longer swims. Our walk are on recognised paths but please be aware that they can be uneven and will have some element of up and down hill. 

HOW MUCH: £205

PLEASE NOTE: The cost does not include accomodation or transport.

To enable us to cater for different budgets, we ask you to book your own accomodation. There are a variety of hotels, guest houses, B and Bs, self catering, caravan, campervan and camping options in the area.

We aim to meet in Kingussie to car share to swim locations where possible.

Kingussie also has a train station if you wish to travel by public transport
